Started in 2000, the cycle of batiks entitled „The Night of the Lights” is nocturnes – transposed night urban landscapes throbbing with light. The work from the past six years has been created in two subsequent series – l and II. The first one is nocturnes with the background of navy-blue sky twinkled with little geometric vertical and horizontal rectangles as well as squares and semicircles in different varieties and shades of warm colours: yellow, orange, red and brown. The second cycle is nocturnes in definitely cool colours: pink, purple, green and sapphire blue presenting forms and their arrangement that are more complicated, denser and tinier. Each phase of drawing the motif and its subsequent dying had been preceded by a thorough analysis of the real night or dusk light. In batiks displayed „against the light” I have been trying to present impressively, the evocative brightness of blinking lamplight, neonlight and advertisement light, transformed extracts of lit flagpoles, building structures, glass lifts and colourful, mysterious windows and skyscrapers. Both series complement each other meeting almost all colours of visible light. They present my feelings evoked by the clash with rather pessimistic reality covered with a dark cloak of night where only colourful lights infuse me with joy...
